During 2016, I decided I’d try a bit of our great outdoors, mainly inspired by some driving to Sheffield and seeing what natural beauty is contained as you drive over the tops, through valleys and more.
So I decided to climb a hill for the first time, namely Shutlingsloe, also known as the Matahorn of Cheshire. Partly due to intrigue of seeing it everyday from our office in Old Trafford, this pointy hill in the lower pennines sticking out, and deciding I wanted to see what the view looked like the other way!
So, I drove to Trentabank reservoir, and started the climb, and being rather naïve, tried to set off like a rocket, and hill’s are steep in parts, so I had to slow the pace right down. That was a good thing, as I could take in the real stunning views on the way to the top, from Macclesfield forest, to the view at the top. I got a bonus that day, and a tip! There was a fell race, after I’d spent a nice hour plus slow walk, some fell runners scaled the steep side in minutes!
I got a top tip from a National Trust guy at the top, so click on the Menu to read more about that tip, Three Shires Head!
