When I was first told by a friend I’d make a good campaigner for the MND Association, I’ll admit that I had some doubts. What I had not realised, in promoting the MND Associations work, and getting my own MP onside, was that I’d already been doing it, just not realising!
I’ve gone on to be involved in some major work nationally, had a number of trips to Westminster, and brought awareness to a range of politicians. Look at the Charity header above, and check out the Charity Involvement menu!
I’ve been very proud of all that I’ve achieved, but there is far more work to do yet, to ensure people living with MND, their Carers, friends and family have access to support and services they need.
I’ll continue to campaign in my Grandad John Broadhurst’s name, we dealt with MND in a time when support did not exist at all, it’s what drives me to make a difference.
I’ve been fortunate to be asked to attend a number of parliamentary events for the MND Association, to help raise awareness of MND with MP’s.
One of my favourite was the benefits lobby in January 2015, when I spoke to 14 MP’s, 12 from Greater Manchester, and two from areas close by, check out the collage from a busy day, and read about that trip on the branch website here!
I’ve also attended Parliamentary receptions for the MND Association, again a chance to discuss MND and it’s impact, and also meet other branches from around the UK, always a great event.
I’ve also worked with MP’s closer to home, arranging meetings, and was proud to have my own become the vice chair of the APPG on MND for two years, after I'd asked her on behalf of the MND Association. I enjoy building good relationships with MP’s and their offices, they play a vital role.
