It’s been ‘varied’ you could say!
I started my life ‘Helping out’ my parents in their shops as a kid, I remember many happy times in the greengrocers we had, mixing with other kids whose parents had other shops, from all backgrounds, growing up with an open mind and tolerant of different cultures.
I then started my own ‘work life’ off aged 12 with the usual early staple, lugging round heavy bags as a local paperboy!
Next up, working in a local drinking hole as a ‘Pot lad’, essentially trying to get empty pint pots back, and washed, before anyone could drink enough to leave the bar short. Pretty simple stuff, until you got to Christmas when every bugger visited. Enjoyed the confidence it gave me around people!
As with most, did my stint in retail, helped me understand how many hours my Dad needed to put in, during his retail career, something my Mum was not keen on me replicating. So…
I ended up working in the world of Insurance Broking, many years later and a wide number of roles, as always with those who ‘fall into it’ as the joke goes, I’m still there, give us a try, here as we can arrange cover for most things!
I also volunteer for the MND Association, something I really enjoy, and feel enriches my wider perspective, see what I’ve been up to there on the Charity section of the site!
