MND Association – How did I get involved!

You may wonder how I got started with volunteering with the MND Association, it was partly by a strange fate of social media.

I was on holiday in 2010 looking at Twitter, when I noticed a tweet on my timeline talking about MND. I tweeted simply to say my Grandad suffered from the disease, and before I knew it, I had a number of people connect with me.

Some of those were volunteers I got to know over a few years, making friends and supporting their efforts, and being a social media advocate for the work of the MND Association. In early 2014 I set about organising a fundraiser at work where I met with some of the local branch. I was asked to use my social media skills to help the branch, and the rest snowballed quickly!

From taking over the branch account in June 2014, I knew it would be busy, then the Ice Bucket Challenge happened! I’d also been getting involved in campaigns like Football v MND, and tried to increase the branch awareness with local figures. From there I was asked to get involved in Campaigning.
